Arri announced an exciting addition to its Alexa family of cameras, which have become an accepted standard in the motion picture industry.
Taking on many of the leading features of the Amira, the Mini is capable of internal 4K UHD recording to CFast 2.0 media in ProRes, and ARRIRAW to an external recorder. At 4K (3200x1800) the new Alexa Mini is capable of 60FPS, and an impressive 200FPS at 2K (2868x1612).
On the lens side, built in ND0.6, 1.2, and 2.1, compliments the swappable PL, B4, or EF lens mount.
In interest of compact operation, the Mini also ads a built in radio interface for ARRI’s wireless lens control, communicating with the ARRI WCU-4 controller. A built in hirose connector communicates to the motor unit, while Arri LDS (Lens Data System) equipped lenses provide live feedback of focus distance, T-stop, and zoom settings.
Built-in WiFi on the Mini supports iOS and Android devices, providing a software based interface for the typical assistant-side controls found on other Alexa models.
ARRI has constantly set the bar for high performance, high quality cameras, and now reaches a new level of coverage across many markets. While ALEXA XT Studio XT Plus while maintain the lions share of high end production, and AMIRA continues to rock the documentary world.
The new ALEXA Mini now poses a major threat to places where the RED Epic and Epic Dragon have held the throne, setting the bar even higher for compact camera builds with the highest of image quality.
